Split Sleeper Berth Time

ree

The first of the pilot programs is related to the split sleeper berth rule. Currently, only 7/3 and 8/2 splits are allowed. This program would use specific drivers to research the safety and quality of sleep a driver may receive if a 5/5 or 6/4 split were allowed. The pilot program includes 256 drivers over a 4-month period.

14-Hour Rule Pause

ree

The second pilot program would allow drivers to pause their 14-hour driving window in which participating CMV drivers would have the option to extend their 14-hour “driving window” by taking one off-duty, sleeper berth, or on-duty/not driving period (taken at the location of a pick-up or delivery of cargo), including what is sometimes called “detention time”, of no less than 30 minutes and no more than 3 hours. This pilot program also includes 256 drivers.
