The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) schedules an International Roadcheck each year with a specific driver and vehicle focus. This year's initiative is scheduled for May 12-14 and includes Canada, Mexico, and the U.S.
Most inspections will be Level I 37-step procedures checking a driver’s documents, license or commercial driver’s license, medical examiner’s certificate and skill performance certificate (if applicable), record of duty status, Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse status (in the U.S.), seat belt usage, and alcohol and/or drug impairment.
For vehicles, they will be checking the brake systems, cargo securement, coupling devices, driveline/driveshaft components, driver’s seat, fuel and exhaust systems, frames, lighting devices, steering mechanisms, suspensions, tires, wheels, rims, hubs, and windshield wipers to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
This Roadcheck will focus attention on electronic logging device (ELD) tampering, falsification or manipulation (driver), and cargo securement (vehicle).
Drivers and/or vehicles with violations will be cited (which could also affect their CSA scores) and/or be placed OOS.
