CVSA’s 2026 Out-of-Service Criteria Now in Effect
Last year, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) voted to approve 17 changes to out-of-service criteria during inspections. Those changes have recently gone into effect. Changes include: Intoxicating Beverages - "Be on Duty or Operate” was amended to state that when the driver is in possession of wine or beer with an alcohol content of 0.5% or more, or any distilled spirit, the driver is out of service. CVSA Releases Brake Safety Week Results
During CVSA's Brake Safety Week in August, inspectors throughout North America conducted 15,175 commercial vehicle inspections. Results include: A 15.1% (2,296) out-of-service rate due to brake related violations. OOS brake violations include: defective brakes, brake hoses/tubes, steering axle and air loss rate. CVSA Releases 2025 Operation Safe Driver Week Results
Operation Safe Driver Week is a 7-day inspection blitz which took place July 13-19 throughout the U.S. and Canada. This year's focus was on driver behavior. During the inspection period, officers issued 3,230 warnings and 1,839 tickets/citations to commercial motor vehicle drivers, and 345 warnings and 665 tickets/citations to passenger vehicle drivers for various unsafe driving behaviors.
