SCAM Alert - Texts/Emails re: Unpaid Tolls or Traffic Fines

Many states have issued warnings that drivers have been receiving texts and emails indicating they owe past due fees for tolls and/or traffic tickets.  These are SCAMS.  States don't text or email drivers regarding money being due.  These are not just being received by commercial drivers but by all drivers.

Most of these messages reference a state code, when payment is due and threaten to take action (e.g. license suspension, etc.) if fees are not paid on time.  These messages are very convincing.

States recommend drivers stay safe by following these tips:

• Always review the sender, the exact name matters.

• Don’t respond to this scam or open any links.

• Delete the message.

If the driver has questions, they should call the State Driver's License Agency (e.g. DMV, BMV, RMV etc.) directly to determine the legitimacy of the message.
